Costa del Sol beats the record for tourists with 12 million in 2016 and 26 million overnight stays
The data imply an economic impact on the economy of Málaga of more than 11,000 million €

The province of Malaga will close 2016 with the highest tourist figures in the history of the Costa del Sol: 12,000,000 visitors, 10.2% more than the previous year, which was also a record; 26,000,000 overnight stays and an economic impact of more than 11,000 million.
As stated this morning the president of Tourism Costa del Sol, Elias Bendodo , at a press conference to present the main findings of the tourism balance of 2016. Bendodo, who appeared accompanied by the President of the Association of Employers of Hospitality, Luis Alley , Has expressed his satisfaction with these data, which he described as “magnificent”. Bendodo has attributed this new record to the Mediterranean crisis, while at the same time strengthening our “competitiveness”.
As for the increase in tourists, the increase in international tourism has been highlighted, which has done so by 15% compared to the national, which has grown by 3%.
Bendodo also valued the strategy of Tourism and Planning Costa del Sol when it comes to obtaining this data, in terms of promotion for the promotion of employment and creation of companies. Thus, it has indicated that the regulated offer is expanded in 683 new establishments and 8,000 places.
The president of AEHCOS for his part has highlighted teamwork to reach these numbers, which he has referred to as enviable. Callejón has said that it is fundamental to break seasonality and that the entrepreneur is aware of the importance of having a quality and qualified workforce. Regarding hotel profitability, he pointed out that “we are starting to be profitable”, but that when one hundred percent of the establishments open and end seasonality will be an example of profitability.
